At one time, there lived a family of fishermen in the coastal area of Sumatra. The family consists of father, mother and a son who was named Malin Kundang. Because the financial condition of the family concern, the father decided to make a living in another country with vast seas.
So, Malin and his mother stayed in their hut. A week, two weeks, a month, two months a year even more length, Malin's father did not return to his hometown. So, her mother must replace the position of Malin's father to make a living. Malin is a bright child but a bit naughty. He often chasing chickens and hit them with a broom. One day, when Malin was chasing chickens, he tripped over a stone and he was injured on his right arm. The injury has become a trace on his arm and can not be lost.
After growing up, Malin Kundang feel sad because see her mother worked hard to earn a living to raise her. He thought to make a living in another country in order to become rich while returning to his hometown. Malin interested in the solicitation of a merchant ship captain who was once poor but now has become a very rich.
Malin Kundang said his desire to his mother. His mother initially less agree with the Malin Kundang's desire, but because Malin kept asking, Malin's Mother finally agrees though feeling very sad abandoned by Malin. After preparing enough food and supplies, Malin went to the dock with escorted by his mother. "My son, if you are already successful and become a wealthy man, do not forget your mother and this village, son", said Malin's Mother while teary-eyed.
Finally, Malin leaving his mother with boarded a ship. On the ship, Malin Kundang learned a lot about seamanship on the crew that has been experienced. Along the way, suddenly came pirates and attack Malin's ship. All the goods on the ship seized by pirates. And most of the crew and people on the ship were killed by the pirates. Malin Kundang very lucky he was not killed by the pirates, because when it happened, Malin immediately hide in a small space enclosed by the timber.
Malin Kundang float amid sea, until finally the ship was stranded on a beach. With the rest of the existing power, Malin Kundang walked to the nearest village from the beach. Having arrived in the village, Malin Kundang helped by people in the village after previously telling incident that happened to him. Malin was arriving in the village that's very fertile. With tenacity and perseverance in work, over time Malin had become a very rich. He has a lot of merchant ships with a crew of more than 100 people. After becoming rich, Malin Kundang marry a girl to become his wife.
The news of Malin Kundang has become rich and have been married, heard up to the Malin Kundang's Mother. Malin's Mother feel grateful and so happy her son has been successful. Since then, the mother of Malin Kundang every day go to the dock, waiting for his return to his hometown.
After a long marriage, Malin and his wife make the voyage with a large and beautiful ship with the crew and a lot of bodyguards. Malin Kundang's mother that every day waiting for his son, saw a very beautiful ship, entri to the harbor. He saw two people who were standing on the deck of a ship. He believes that it is her son standing with his wife.
Malin Kundang stepped down from the ship. He was greeted by his mother. Once close enough, his mother saw the scar on his right arm that person, he was increasingly convinced that the person is Malin Kundang. Not long after, the wind roared fierce winds and storms come to destroy the ship of Malin. After that Malin Kundang body slowly becomes stiff and then eventually turn into a rock.
Moral: As a child, never forget all the services parents especially to a mother who was pregnant and raise their children, especially when it comes to being a rebellious child. Disobedience to parents is a major sin which will be borne by the children.
